RICHARD C. BRZEZICKI
Bordentown, New Jersey * Scottsdale, Arizona

Richard's earliest days of shotgunning began when he became a bird hunter.  One day he decided to sharpen his skills and visited the Gunsmoke Trap Club.  This facility was established by past NJSTA Secretary, Arthur Crispin at his farm in Columbus, NJ.  It was there, about 1963, that Rich was introduced to trap shooting when Art Crispin lent his Winchester Model 12 pump so he could try a round of clay targets.  art become Rich's friend and mentor.  Not long after, Rich bought his own trap gun, a Winchester Model 12, which he still has today.  May remember Rich in later years, winning tournaments with his K-80.

by 1965, shooting clay targets for only two years, Brzezicki broke his first 100-straight during the 68th New Jersey State Shoot.  He was thrilled by his score and equally excited to win the Class B' trophy.  The following day he posted a 199 x 200 to win his first state singles title.  Rich visited gun clubs up and down the East Coast and won club championships at Pine Valley, Pine Belt, and the long defunct Quaker City GC.  At the 58th N.Y. Athletic club shoot held in 1967 at Pelham Manor, N.Y., he won the Amateur American Handicap Championship breaking 97 x 100 from the 24 1/2 yard mark.  He was also runner-up in the Singles Championship scoring 197 x 200 and captured the All-Around title with 386 x 400.

He won his second State Singles in 1968.  after carding 199 Rich won the shoot-off with close friend Archie DiPaolo who also missed only one target.  At the 1968 State Zone shoots Rich won the Singles Class AA Title at the Northern Zone and was crowned Southern Zone Singles Champion for his 199.  He has twice won the Jersey Devil Championship with scores of 199 and 200.

Richard is extremely proud of winning the Jersey Cricket Shoot a record seven times.  His first win was in 1969.  He was honored as champion again in 1985.  He then won this 300-bird shoot three years in a row from 89-91 and again in 93 and 94.

In 1973 Rich won his third NJ State Singles Title at Atlantic City with a 200 x 200 along with Stanley Bystrek.  He broke 25 straight in the shoot-off for the Championship.  This was the first time since 1933 that a 200 straight was registered in the Singles Championship.  Brzezicki would capture his first and only State Doubles championship in 1975 i a shoot-off once again with his old friend, Archie DiPaolo, after both topped the field with 93.

At the 1982 Gold West Grand in Reno, Nevada, Rich won the Class AA award after four shoot-offs with Dan Bonillas.  He remembers winning a Browning BT 99 when he broke 98 in the Handicap at the Mile High Shoot in Denver, Colorado.

He has amassed countless trophies over the years.  Among his most memorable was representing New Jersey in the Champion of Champions race at the Grand American, being in competition with the top shooters and winning the NJ State Singles Championship for the third time.  Of course, Rich states "you can't have memories without people and I met so many along the way who became my friends."

Richard Brzezicki last registered targets in 1998.  At the end of that target year he had recorded 136,850 singles, 54,800 handicap and 26,030 doubles.

Since then he continues to work and recently completed a 2 million dollar Frank Lloyd Wright style house for his employer.  He also enjoys playing golf and traveling throughout the country with his wife, Joan.

We've challenged Rich to dust off his K-80, bring it out of retirement and shoot with us at the State Shoot.
